Dec. 06--ASHTABULA -- A city police officer has been put on administrative leave pending an investigation after he crashed an unmarked police car Friday morning.
Police Chief Robert Stell said the officer, Lt. John Koski, will remain on leave pending the outcome of the investigation, which is standard procedure, he said.
Koski has been with the department for more than 12 years.
The three-vehicle accident occurred at about 7:22 a.m. on Route 84 inside the city limits, said Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Erik Souders, who investigated the accident.
Koski, who just finished third-shift at the police department, was heading to his home west of the city limits, Souders said.
"He drove left of the center of the road and struck a black Ford 150 (pickup)" he said.
Koski continued on and hit another vehicle, also eastbound on Route 84, Souders said.
All three vehicles then came to rest in the eastbound lane, he said.
"That's when (the OHP) arrived on the scene," Souders said.
No one was injured and no one was transported in the crash, OHP reports.
Koski is facing a traveling left of center charge in Municipal Court, Souders said.
Stell said the unmarked police car suffered moderate damage.
"It's not driveable," he said.
