A Nassau County Highway Patrol officer on a motorcycle was seriously injured in a crash during a funeral procession.
The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. Monday in Lindenhurst, Suffolk County, while Nassau officers led the funeral procession for a relative of another officer.
The crash happened at the intersection of North Wellwood Avenue and Jerome St. after the procession left Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, and the officer on the motorcycle crashed into a Toyota Tundra pickup truck.
The officer was rushed to the hospital in serious condition.
Video taken at the scene show significant front-end damage on the truck and a police motorcycle on its side under the front of the vehicle. The crash scene was still taped off hours later.
Circumstances behind the crash are under investigation.
