  • Two bystanders were seriously injured when a fleeing suspect in a high-speed chase flipped and struck their vehicle after an Arkansas State Police trooper executed a PIT maneuver.

A Washington deputy executed a series of PIT maneuvers to stop fleeing robbery suspects during a wild interstate chase last month.

The pursuit happened shortly before 5:15 p.m. Aug. 16 when King County sheriff's deputies responded to a robbery report at a North Bend store, the agency stated in a social media post that included body and dashboard camera footage of the incident. The fleeing suspects were traveling westbound along Interstate 90 and refused to pull over for deputies.

That's when a deputy caught up with the vehicle and performed a PIT manuever to try to stop it. The car was able to continue operating after the first PIT manuever, and it took two more manuevers before the vehicle was sent into a ditch.

Once the car was vehicle, the deputy responsible for the PIT manuever stopped one of the suspects from fleeing on foot. Three suspects were eventually apprehended, and they were taken to the hospital before they were booked into jail on investigation of theft.

"The good news: the stolen items went back to the store," the sheriff's office stated.
