A Kentucky deputy was injured last week when a suspect accused of kidnapping his 2-month-old baby sideswiped a cruiser before crashing into a church following a chase that began in Ohio.

The incident happened just after 7 p.m. April 14 when Boone County sheriff's deputies were alerted about a child abduction in Greene County, Ohio, the agency stated in a news release. Brenton Howland, 20, allegedly forced the mother of his child out of her vehicle and drove away with the infant still inside, according to the Greene County Sheriff's Office.

Boone County deputies spotted Howland at a gas station, and a high-speed chase ensued. The pursuit was called off, however, when deputies lost sight of Howland, who was allegedly driving recklessly.

Authorities again caught up with Howland at about 7:45 p.m. in Walton, Kentucky, kicking off another high-speed chase. Dashboard camera footage captured the end of the pursuit.

In the video, Howland is seen sideswiping Sgt. Jeff Nagy's cruiser. The crash sent Howland's vehicle into the side of a church, and Nagy's cruiser collided with a Jeep.

Howland was taken into custody and transported to the hospital with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening. The child was uninjured in the crash and was reunited with their mother.

Nagy was rushed to the hospital, where he was treated before being released to recover at home.

Howland faces multiple charges from Boone County, including three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment. He also has charges pending in Kenton County, Kentucky, and Greene County

The incident is under investigation.
