A man accused of committing a series of armed robberies was arrested last week after fleeing Florida police and crashing his vehicle into a power pole, abruptly ending what authorities described as a short-lived escape attempt.
Clinton Deon Scarlett was taken into custody Jan. 28 following a vehicle pursuit that ended when his car struck a power pole, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office in a news release that included dashboard and body camera footage. Scarlett faces three counts of robbery with a firearm, four counts of possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon, as well as possession of cocaine and a synthetic cannabinoid.
Investigators said the chase followed an attempt by deputies and Ocala police officers to conduct a traffic stop after identifying Scarlett as the suspect in three armed robberies reported over two days. The sheriff's office's Major Crimes detectives, working with OPD, used witness statements and investigative tools to link Scarlett to all three robberies, according to authorities.
Following the crash and arrest, deputies conducted a search and reported finding cocaine and K2, a synthetic cannabinoid, in Scarlett’s possession.
Scarlett was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he is held without bond.
