Video: Ga. Deputies End 140 MPH Chase with PIT Maneuver

A driver sped away from a traffic stop by a Jones County sheriff's deputy after her outstanding warrants in two states were confirmed, reaching speeds of up to 140 mph before authorities used a PIT maneuver to stop her vehicle.

A driver led a Georgia deputies on a high-speed pursuit last week, fleeing a traffic stop after she learned she had multiple warrants.

The incident happened just before 8 p.m. when a Jones County sheriff's deputy pulled over for active warrants, according to a news release from the agency. The driver—identified as Demetric Bazi—complied with the stop at first, but she quickly sped off when her warrants were confirmed.

During the chase, Bazi reached speeds of up to 140 mph, but she didn't go to great lengths to deceive what she was doing on the roadway.

"In a surprising twist, she used her blinker and moved over for another driver while fleeing from deputies," the sheriff's office stated.

A deputy eventually executed a PIT maneuver to stop Bazi's vehicle. But the suspect continued to try elude police after that, jumping out of her can and running toward a wooded area.

Bazi finally was taken into custody after a deputy deployed a Taser to subdue her. She faces charges of fleeing and attempting to elude.

Bazi had arrest warrants in three Georgia counties, as well as outstanding warrants in North Carolina, WMAZ-TV reports.
