Lathrop police were pursuing a domestic violence suspect when his vehicle became disabled, and he tried to hijack a car, which drove away with the suspect still hanging on.

California police recently released dashboard camera video of a wild chase involving a domestic violence suspect who hung to the window of a vehicle he had tried to carjack as it drover away.

The incident happened Jan. 28 when Lathrop police tried to apprehend Juan Valdez, a 40-year-old man wanted in a domestic violence case, CBS News reports. Officers were pursuing his vehicle on Interstate 5 when one of the tires came apart.

That's when Valdez jumped out and tried to carjack two other vehicles. While he tried to get into the second vehicle, the driver drove away, and Valdez hung onto the window as the car traveled down the interstate.

The driver eventually stopped on the shoulder, and Valdez tried again to enter the vehicle. Officers, however, opened fire, and Valdez was shot and wounded.

Valzdez faces multiple felony charges, including carjacking, false imprisonment and committing a felony while out on release/parole for a prior felony.
