Arizona State troopers used a cruiser-mounted grappling device to stop a car in connection with a street racing hit-and-run crash that involved a pedestrian earlier this month.

The incident happened June 10 as the Arizona Department of Public Safety and members of a street racing task force—that includes officers from the Mesa, Phoenix and Tempe police departments—responded to reports of a street takeover that clogging an intersection in Mesa, according to a DPS press release. During the takeover, a pedestrian was struck by an alleged racer, and the vehicle fled the scene.

Task force members were able to locate the suspect, allowing a DPS sergeant to come up behind the vehicle. In footage from the sergeant's dashboard camera, the trooper is seen deploying a Grappler Police Bumper, which latched on to one of the vehicle’s rear tires and brought it to a safe stop.

Police detained the driver and passenger—both 17-year-old boys—and they were cited for street racing.
