A man cleaning his glasses while driving ran a red light on Monday and crashed into a Lancaster County police cruiser, authorities said.

The East Lampeter Township officer had a steady green light at Old Philadelphia Pike and the Route 30 eastbound bypass when the crash happened around 4:05 p.m., according to township police.

Police said a Mercedes-Benz sedan headed west on Old Philadelphia Pike ran the red light and crashed into the driver’s side of the police cruiser. The cruiser’s dash camera footage recorded the crash.

The officer and a person who was in the cruiser’s passenger seat were treated for minor injuries, police said. The Mercedes driver was not hurt. Police did not say if he was cited for running the red light.

East Lampeter police are asking anyone who saw or has information about the crash to call their department at 717-291-4676.
