New Simulation Tool Trains Kentucky Officers in Real-Life Scenarios

The ViTra simulator allows Louisville Metro Police Department officers to choose the best way to de-escalate multiple high-pressure situations.
Officers at a Kentucky police department will be able to train for high-pressure incidents by using a new simulation tool.
The ViTra simulator, which is being used by the Louisville Metro Police Department, creates a 270-degree virtual enforcement that officers have to respond to, WHAS-TV reports. In the simulation, officers must choose the best way to deal and de-escalate multiple situations, anything from using pepper spray to drawing their Glock 19 service weapon.
“It gives us the opportunity to be highly critical. ‘Hey listen, I understand why you did the things,'" Sgt. Justin Witt told WHAS. "But then you are able to retrain them to what policy says and what best practices point us towards."
