Video: NYPD Officers Scale Brooklyn Bridge to Remove Climber
NYPD officers scaled the Brooklyn Bridge to lure down a climber who had walked out onto the structure's cables during morning rush hour Thursday.
The incident happened at about 6:30 a.m. when a man in a red baseball cap was seen climbing up the bridge, WNYW-TV reports. Police shut down two lanes of traffic on the bridge and began working to bring the climber down.
Officers climbed along the cables to reach the man and tried to talk to him. Eventually, they were able to convince the man to come down from the iconic bridge.
Once on the ground, the climber was taken into custody and transported to a hospital. Although no details have been released about why he scaled the bridge, the man was seen wearing a T-shirt for the Howard Hughes Corporation's social responsibility program, HHCares.
