Two Phoenix Police Officers Injured During Fiery Crash Rescue

Helped by two bystanders, Phoenix police officers used a fire extinguisher to shatter a window and pull a critically injured driver from a vehicle that overturned and burst into flames after hitting a utility pole.

Two Phoenix police officers were injured while pulling a critically injured driver from a fiery car wreck Wednesday.

According to KNXV-TV, a vehicle crashed into a power pole at an intersection before bursting into flames. Video from the scene shows the overturned car with smoke and flames spewing from it. The power pole that was struck can be seen spit in two in other footage.

Witnesses told KNXV that the Phoenix police officers used a fire extinguisher to shatter the car's window and reach the trapped driver. The two officers were then joined by two bystanders, and they were able to rescue the man.

"Two officers received injuries to their hands and arms as a result of pulling the man from the vehicle," said a police spokesperson.

The driver was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Police are still investigating the incident.

Later Wednesday, another Phoenix police officer was injured in a separate traffic incident, KSAZ-TV reports. An SUV turned in front of the officer's cruiser and collided with the vhicle.

The Officer was taken to hospital and is expected the recover. The two people in the SUV were uninjured.
