"I think it shows that I'm human, too," said a rookie Prince George's County police officer about how his musical ability helps him reach out to the community.
A rookie Maryland police officer is using his talent as a classical violinist to show a different side of law enforcement.
Prince George's County Police Officer Alexander Strachan has been a violinist for over two decades, WJLA-TV reports. He joined the department earlier this in order to make a difference in his community.
"In some ways, it is similar to life as a musician, because I'm going into places where I'm not sure what's going to happen, how people are going to react, but it is an adventure," Strachan told CBS News.
Before joining the police force, Strachan had spent 10 years playing the violin for the terminally ill and senior citizens. That included his grandmother, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease.
"I think it shows that I'm human, too," Strachan said about his musical talent. "I have hobbies, passions outside of police work. Cops are so talented. People don't see that."
