ASP Integrated Training Program

Feb. 12, 2018

In addition to manufacturing its well-known line of batons, restraints and flashlights, ASP provides comprehensive training in the integrated use of those three most commonly-used duty belt tools. Its flagship training platform is the ASP Instructor Certification (AIC) program, which has graduated tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from thousands of agencies around the world. The three-day training teaches street-proven, easily recalled and repeated, legally-tested techniques for officer protection and subject control.

AIC students participate in a demanding progression of classroom and fast-paced physical training, covering both the principle and practice of different baton strikes, handcuff and flexible restraint application, and tactical flashlight use. Trainees are required to “teach back” to their classmates, and to pass written and practical exams. ASP believes that when officer safety is involved, training credentials must be worked for and earned; so unlike some training programs, graduation and certification are not a given at AIC courses.

Also unlike some other programs is the fact that law enforcement agencies, officers and other qualified candidates don’t pay anything for the course, the books, or even the significant amount of gear they get to use and keep at the end of the training. ASP provides and pays the trainers and their expenses, and supplies all the equipment and logistics at no charge.

Each year, a small number of instructors are nominated and invited to attend the company’s ASP Trainer Certification (ATC) where they may earn the credentials needed to teach future AIC candidates.
