    Every law enforcement agency has its own set of diverse firearms training needs and objectives. For nearly a century, however, the way law enforcement officers have trained with live-fire has remained relatively unchanged, says Jonathan Read, Vice President of Live Fire Systems, Meggitt Training Systems. “For 90 years people have been shooting at ink and paper,” he says. “That is, until now.”

    Recent advancements in virtual simulation technology have given law enforcement officers the ability to train judgmental and marksmanship skills in a controlled environment that wasn’t always available on the live range. On the other hand, live-fire training provides LEOs the opportunity to fine-tune their duty weapon skills in a more realistic environment. Both ways of training provide multiple benefits to LEOs that the other may not offer, but as Read notes, you can’t have one training method without the other. Meggitt’s goal has been to create the technology that bridges the gap between firearms training that takes place in the classroom to that which takes place on the live-fire range, all while assisting with each agency’s individual training objectives.
