A man rescued by boat from a rock in the Tygart River on Sunday was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital. Authorities found him to be delusional and in need of medical treatment for hypothermia, W.Va. Division of Natural Resources (DNR) Police Lt. Jon Cogar reported.
Cogar said more information on the individual, including his name and how he came to be stranded, will be released today.
The Marion County Sheriff 's Department dispatcher referred all questions Sunday to the Natural Resources Police (NRP).
Things began at about 9:50 a.m., when Harrison County 911, which also answers Taylor County 911, dispatched the Taylor County Sheriff 's Office in response to a call about a water rescue on Valley Falls Road, near the Pruntytown End.
At 10:04 a.m., Marion County 911 dispatched the Marion County Rescue Squad, Winfield Volunteer Fire Department and Taylor County Emergency Squad.
The Grafton Fire Department and Marion County Sheriff 's Department also sent units.
Cogar, in a report to DNR spokesman Hoy Murphy, said the river rescue was near Valley Falls State Park in Marion County. The man reportedly had been stranded on the rock, in the river near the park, overnight, according to the report.
NRP officers Sgt. Bob Waybright, Ben Riley, Randall Kocsis and Josh Prickett responded. Kocsis and Marion Rescue Squad members used a boat to remove him from the rock.
When the medical helicopter called for transport was unable to land because of weather, Marion 911 said, the Marion Rescue Squad took the man to Ruby Memorial Hospital, arriving at 1:21 p.m.
