MOULTRIE, Ga. -- A Colquitt County Sheriff's Office deputy responding to a call was forced to dodge a driver headed the wrong direction on a four-lane road early Sunday morning.

The deputy was driving south at about 2:20 a.m. on Veterans Parkway near the intersection with Tallokas Road when he saw a vehicle headed north in the oncoming lanes of traffic. In order to avoid a collision, the officer braked and swerved to the right, sheriff's reports said.

Almost immediately, the driver of the 1997 Ford Contour did a U-turn and headed south, and the officer made a traffic stop.

Inside the car were five passengers, with one sitting in another's lap, and driver Griselda Jimenez, the reports said. Jimenez smelled heavily of alcohol, and a portable alcohol sensor indicated she had been drinking, the deputy said.

Jimenez also had slurred speech, the reports said. At Colquitt County Jail an alcohol test indicated her blood alcohol content was nearly two times the legal limit.

Jimenez, 47, of 7827 Tarbilla Ave., North Port, Fla., was charged with driving under the influence, improper U-turn and driving on the wrong side of the road.
