Berks County deputy sheriffs arrested a Reading man on the roof of a relative's city home, authorities said Tuesday. He was wanted on assault and weapons charges.
Javier Rodriguez Jr., 20, was committed to Berks County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail after arraignment late Monday before Senior District Judge Gloria W. Stitzel in Reading Central Court.
According to Chief Deputy Tony Damore:
Deputies from the fugitive warrants division went to the 200 block of North Second Street Monday about 7 p.m. to investigate a report that Rodriguez was living there with the relative. Deputies saw Rodriguez inside the apartment and went to the front door and talked to the relative.
They heard someone running in the house and saw Rodriguez climbing out a third-floor window. Deputies pulled down the fire escape ladder and went up onto the roof where they arrested Rodriguez.
At the request of city police, District Judge Alvin B. Robinson issued an arrest warrant for Rodriguez on Sept. 11 on charges of aggravated carrying a firearm without a license.
According to city police:
Police responded to a domestic dispute at 11th and Pike streets Sept. 3 about 1:30 p.m. Police learned Rodriguez had pointed a handgun at the victim during an argument.
The victim, whose name was withheld by police, said Rodriguez was residing in the 200 block of North Second Street. Officers went to the residence but were told by a relative that she didn't know where he was.
