Ore. K-9 Killed, Officer Wounded

A Portland officer was wounded and his K-9 was killed during a shootout early Wednesday morning.

A Portland, Ore. police officer was wounded and his K-9 partner was killed during a shootout early Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred near Southwest Capitol Highway and Lobelia Street around 2:51 a.m. during a confrontation with a suspect who fled the scene, according to a news release.

The wound officer suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and was transported to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center for treatment. His K-9 partner was fatally wounded in the shooting and was found dead at the scene.

A Special Emergency Reaction Team responded, [an emergency notification system] call was sent out and Portland Police Bureau Air Support Unit assisted in the search during the manhunt for the suspect.

Calls by residents assisted in locating the suspect in the 6900 block of Southwest Oleson Road and he was taken into custody without incident and the rifle police believed he used was located.

The suspect was transported to a Portland-area hospital for treatment to unknown injuries.

The incident is currently under investigation.
