Pit Bull Attacks Washington Sheriff's K-9

A pit bull attacked a Spokane County Sheriff’s K-9 that was chasing a burglary suspect on Monday.

A pit bull attacked a police dog chasing a burglary suspect Monday evening, sending the K-9 to an emergency veterinarian.

The police dog, named Laslo, was having a bite wound closed with six stitches, said Spokane County sheriff’s Deputy Craig Chamberlin.

The pit bull was shot twice and killed by Laslo’s handler, Deputy Jeff Thurman.

The episode unfolded around 6 p.m. in a mobile home park in the Greenacres community.

Thurman was called to a burglary in progress and when he arrived he found a man on a porch. The man took off running, Chamberlin said.

Thurman and his dog gave chase and a pit bull chained up nearby broke free and attacked. The dog would not let go of Laslo’s leg, Chamberlin reported, so Thurman killed it.
