Washington Police K-9 Stabbed by Suspect

Kent Police K-9 Kato was stabbed in the shoulder with a pocket knife by a suspect he tracked down.

A Kent, Wash. police dog is recovering after he was stabbed by a suspect Tuesday night.

Officer Tung and K-9 Kato were requested to assist in Des Moines around 6:41 p.m. in locating a domestic violence suspect, according to a department statement.

Kato, German shepherd, located the suspect when he was suddenly stabbed in the shoulder with a pocket knife.

Officers were able to get the suspect in custody, and immediate attention was given to their wounded comrade.

The K-9 was transported to a veterinary clinic where he is in stable condition and had to undergo immediate surgery. Officials said Tung stayed by his partner's side during the entire ordeal.

Kato, a two-year veteran of the force, was released from the clinic Wednesday morning and is currently resting at home.
