An Allentown police K-9 tracked down two burglary suspects Monday morning after the men allegedly broke into a home on N. Penn Street and tried taking copper pipes, according to court records.
Police were dispatched around 10:30 a.m. Monday to a report of a burglary in progress at 627 N. Penn St., according to court records. Police said the victim reported seeing three men run out of the home and found broken and damaged copper pipes inside.
A police officer and his canine tracked two of the suspects to the 700 block of N. Penn Street. One of the suspects had a hypodermic needle on him.
The two men caused more than $5,000 in damage to an apartment and the basement at the address.
Leonardo Rivas, 39, of Allentown, and Jose M. Resto, 37, of Allentown, were charged with burglary, criminal trespassing and criminal mischief. Rivas was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
They were both arraigned by District Judge Wayne Maura and sent to Lehigh County Prison, Rivas on $75,000 bail and Resto on $65,000 bail.
It is unclear if a third person was ever arrested.
