Man Charged in Crash Involving Mass. Police Officer, K-9
BROCKTON, MA— A city police officer was injured in a crash involving his K-9 partner over the weekend, officials said.
Police responded to the area of 292 Forest Ave. shortly before 9 a.m. Sunday after a police officer reported he was involved in a crash.
Police say the driver of a Ford F-150 backed out of the Forest Avenue driveway and collided with the cruiser, which was heading eastbound.
"The police car suffered heavy front-end damage and the pickup received rear-end damage," police spokesperson Darren Duarte said.
The officer, Eric Burke, had his K-9 partner, Woody, a Labrador retriever, in his cruiser.
Woody, who joined the Brockton Police Department earlier this year, is the department's first Labrador retriever and first narcotics and search dog. Burke and Woody began working together Feb. 17.
Burke suffered minor injuries in the crash, Duarte said, but Woody and the truck driver were uninjured.
"The investigating officer charged the driver of the Ford pickup with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle," Duarte said.
The crash remains under investigation.
