Texas Sheriff's Deputy Shot While Serving Warrant May Lose His Arm

Comal County Sheriff's Deputy Eddy Luna, who was shot while serving a felony warrant Thursday morning, may lose his arm after undergoing multiple surgeries.

SPRING BRANCH, Texas -- A Comal County Sheriff's deputy who was shot while serving a felony warrant Thursday morning may lose his arm after undergoing multiple surgeries.

Deputy Eddy Luna was attempting to serve the warrant at a residence in the 1400 block of Springwood in Spring Branch to serve a felony warrant when he was shot and wounded, according to a news release.

Luna was flown to University Hospital where he underwent at least three surgeries.

"Deputy Luna is currently undergoing his 3rd surgery, and it is our understanding that there will be more. We want to thank everyone for your prayers and please continue to pray for him and his family," officials said in a statement.

Comal County Constable’s Office Precinct 1 shared a message sent by Luna's son:

"My dad is currently in his 3rd surgery to piece the upper part of his arm that was also broken from the blast," the message reads. "He has many surgeries ahead this is only the beginning. His lower portion of his arm was beneath the elbow was almost completely gone. He is expected to be here atleast 6 days following the progress of the surgeries. Doctors are trying there best to save his arm but have also been honest with us along the way, so hes definitely not out of the woods yet."

The deputy's son thanked everyone involved in assisting in the response and said that the bleeding had to be controlled with two tourniquets.

"Thank you again for all the support my dad is receiving hes been under for quite awhile and when he's kinda awake hes in extreme pain," he wrote. "We're just hoping soon he can be more comfortable. Ill try to update you all along the way."

Deputy Luna is a Veteran of the United States Army and is a graduate of New Braunfels High School. He started his career with the Comal County Sheriff’s Office in September of 1991 as a Corrections Officer. Since then, he has served as a Patrol Deputy, a Detective in the Criminal Investigations Division and is currently working as a Warrants Deputy.

This incident is currently under investigation.
