Metro Police fatally shot a man Tuesday morning after he took an ex-girlfriend hostage and pointed his weapon at officers, Capt. Carlos Hank said.

Police responded about 9 a.m. to a report of shots fired in the 5600 block of East Lake Mead Boulevard, Hank said. Officers learned a man had kidnapped his ex-girlfriend and fled the area with a gun, Hank said.

Police located the two near a plaza at Charleston Boulevard and Sloan Lane, Hank said. Officers shot the man after he pointed a gun at them, Hank said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

None of the officers involved were injured, Hank said.

More details will be released after 72 hours, Hank said. Metro asked people to avoid the area.
