ROCKVILLE, MD-- RedXDefense, a leader in the field of trace explosives detection since 2005, announced the release of the XCAT handheld detection system. This system fills the capability gap in the market by offering users a one step, one platform narcotics, explosives and gunshot residue detection system that weighs less than 1.5 lbs. and costs less than $2000.
The XCAT system uses detection cards with specially formulated detection inks and software to identify characteristics unique to each individual or group of chemically-related substances and returns a simple red or green light signal to the user. The system negates the paradigm that detection systems are expensive or difficult to use/interpret. At this price point, all law enforcement and security forces can be equipped with a detection system.
The XCAT complements the company's product, the XPAK trace explosives detection system, deployed since 2007 and in use by foreign and U.S. Military, civilian and private sector customers. Example applications include force protection, vehicle check points, clearance of unattended packages or cargo, and as a complement to canines. The XPAK has had outstanding performance in austere field environments such as Iraq and Afghanistan. Arguably, it has the most field 'up time' of any trace explosives detection.
