Houston police released body camera footage captured a shootout that erupted during a standoff with an armed suspect as other law enforcement agencies were trying to serve a warrant last month.

The incident happened at around 12:30 p.m. March 9 when officers with the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Texas Attorney General's Office and the Harris County Precinct 7 Constables Office were at a home to serve a warrant, according to a Houston police news release. When they arrived, the suspect, identified as Kojuan Miles, barricaded himself in the home and armed himself with at least two weapons.

A Houston police SWAT unit was called in, and for two hours negotiators communicated with Miles via text, according to Assistant Chief Megan Howard. Although Miles refused to surrender, he did allow for a person with special needs to be removed from the home.

At one point, Miles opened the home's front door and pointed a gun at police. An officer then fired a shot, and Miles went back inside the house.

Miles began shooting at an officer, who returned fire. Miles was struck, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

No officers were injured in the incident.

The shooting is under investigation.
