The U.S. Naval Academy is on lockdown after a person was injured in a shooting and after the military school received threats on Thursday, according to a state official and the City of Annapolis.

There was a shooting that injured one person at the facility, according to a state official with knowledge of the situation who was not authorized to speak publicly.

One person was Medevaced from the facility, the state official said.

The Naval Support Activity Annapolis is investigating reported threats from Thursday. The base remained on lockdown Thursday evening and residents have been asked to avoid the area until further notice.

At the public-facing entrance on Randall Street, guards confirmed to a Capital Gazette reporter around 6:21 p.m. that the facility was on lockdown but declined to provide further details.

A small group who had arrived to watch a soccer practice was turned away. The event was canceled. A helicopter was overhead.

Anne Arundel County Fire Department Lieutenant Brian Christopher said the department sent units mutual aid to the Naval Academy on Thursday evening.

Christopher said he did not know how many units were sent over or if there were any people with injuries at the Naval Academy.
