N.C. Police Save 2 Hostages During Domestic Disturbance, Standoff

Gaston County police were shot at while responding to a domestic disturbance at a Gastonia home, and officers discovered a dead person after rescuing two people and arresting a suspect.

North Carolina police rescued two people during a domestic disturbance and hostage standoff early Wednesday and left one person dead.

The incident happened shortly before 3 a.m. when Gaston County police responded to a domestic disturbance at a home in South Gastonia, according to a county news release. A suspect inside the home opened fire at officers as they approached, and police called for backup.

The first group of officers were able to initially rescue a person from the home, but another person still remained inside. The Emergency Response Team conducted a rescue operation, and the second person was taken to safety.

Along with rescuing the hostage, ERT members arrested a suspect inside the home. They also found a dead person.

The incident is under investigation.
