CHANDLER, Arizona -- A suspect was taken into custody following a standoff after shooting three Chandler police officers Monday morning.
The suspect initially barricaded himself inside a home, which was then set on fire, before he escaped and ran to a neighboring apartment complex where he was eventually arrested, according to KNXV-TV.
The gunman's rampage began around 1 a.m. near Chandler Boulevard and Arizona Avenue when an officer was attempting to make contact with a suspicious person when the man ran. The officer pursued the suspect on foot when the suspect pulled out a firearm and fired multiple shots at the officer.
The officer was struck in the lower body and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The officer was treated at a local hospital and has since been released.
Around 7:30 a.m., residents in the area were asked to shelter in place after more shots were fired. A second officer was shot and taken to the hospital while a third officer was also shot in the vest during the confrontation, but was not seriously injured.
Officers returned fire during the incident, but it's unknown whether the suspect was injured.
