HAYS COUNTY, Texas -- The Hays County sheriff’s office deputy who was injured after a shooting Friday morning was sent home from the hospital Saturday evening, Hays County officials said.
Deputy Benjamin Gieselman, 28, will continue receiving treatment for his injuries to his torso and legs, officials said.
Gieselman was shot during what authorities described as an ambush on Hays deputies Friday morning in Wimberley. The suspect, Rocky Miles West, 26, died of apparent gunshot wounds.
On Friday at 3:45 a.m., four deputies responded to a call of a break-in by an armed gunman at Jean’s Antique Mall. While deputies were looking for an armed man at the shop, West opened fire as he crouched behind a rock wall above the shop, striking Gieselman and several patrol cars, officials said. Deputies returned fire and West fled into the woods, where he was later found dead, authorities said.
Officials have not released further information on the investigation into the shooting.
