NYPD Officer Accidentally Shoots U.S. Marshal

An NYPD officer accidentally wounded a Deputy U.S. Marshal after opening fire on a pit bull Thursday morning.

An NYPD officer accidentally wounded a Deputy U.S. Marshal after opening fire on a pit bull Thursday morning.

The officer was working with the U.S. Marshal's Service to serve a warrant along Bayview Avenue in Jersey City, N.J. around 6:30 a.m. when the incident occurred, according to WCBS-TV.

The dog attacked the law enforcement officers, forcing the NYPD cop to fire five shots. The pit bull was fatally wounded while the U.S. Marshal was struck in the foot.

The U.S. Marshal was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

One person was taken into custody after the warrant was served.
