Mass. Troopers Save Heart Attack Victim at Work Site

    June 2, 2011
-- Two state police troopers are being credited with saving the life of a man who suffered an apparent heart attack near where they were working a detail.

    BOSTON --

Two state police troopers are being credited with saving the life of a man who suffered an apparent heart attack near where they were working a detail.

Trooper Thomas Loughran and Trooper Geoffrey Stokes were working a paid detail on Route 28 at the Assembly Square Mall in Somerville when they saw a Department of Transportation employee suffer a possible heart attack and fall to the ground, according to state police. The man hit his head, causing a laceration when he fell.

The troopers both responded immediately with medical bags and performed CPR on the worker, a 60-year-old South Boston man, state police said.

The troopers continued CPR until Somerville Fire and Rescue EMS personnel arrived at the scene. Two shocks were given from a defibrillator.

The worker, whose name was not released, was conscious when he was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital.
