Pa. Department Settles Suit, Pays Woman $100K

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. --

A Middletown woman has settled her Federal Civil Rights Lawsuit against the Middletown Borough Police Department and the Dauphin County Drug Task Force.

Dennis E. Boyle, an attorney with Boyle, Autry & Murphy, said Friday that the police department settled with Deanna Perry for $100,000.

Perry alleged police made her sit partially naked on a stool as members of the Dauphin County Drug Task Force performed a search on her home in 2008.

She said police made crude comments, laughed at intimate pictures found in the home and put one of them in the window. Charges against Perry were later dropped.

"This case was never about money," Boyle said. "It was about making sure that the rights of all citizens are protected. I hope the individuals involved in this incident have learned from their mistakes and that other people in Middletown will not be subjected to this type of treatment."

The settlement of $100,000 will be paid by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General on behalf of the Dauphin County Drug Task Force and the Borough of Middletown on behalf of the Middletown Police Department.
