FLINT, MI — Active improvised explosive devices (IEDs) found inside a Flint home this week were safely donated, according to Flint police.
Officers with the Flint Police Department responded at approximately 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5, to a home in the 1500 block of Blackberry Lane.
The response came after a person cleaning the home discovered “suspicious items and immediately called 911,” according to a Friday, Nov. 7, news release from the Flint Police Department.
“Upon arrival, officers identified items that appeared to be improvised explosive devices,” the release reads.
The Flint Police Department Bomb Squad was then activated and responded to the scene.
“Utilizing specialized equipment, the bomb squad confirmed the items were active IEDs,” the release reads “The IEDs were safely moved and detonated in the interest of public safety.”
Flint police did not immediately respond to questions by MLive-The Flint Journal on the number and type of devices that were found inside the home.
A search of the home was conducted and no other IEDs were found, police said, adding that the person believed to have manufactured the devices was in jail on an unrelated charge when the discovery was made.
“There were no further threats to public safety and to the community following the incident,” the release reads.
An investigation into the discovery is ongoing at this time.
