STONE MOUNTAIN, Georgia -- A Gwinnett County police officer was killed and a second officer was critically injured Sunday morning while responding to a call.

Officers were dispatched at approximately 7:30 a.m. to the 1790 block of E. Park Place Boulevard regarding a fraud call, according to a news release.

While on scene, officers made contact with a subject who fired shots at two officers, striking both. Officers returned fire, injuring the suspect.

The officers involved were identified as Master Police Officer David M. Reed Police Officer Senior Pradeep Tamang.

Tamang died as a result of his injuries. He joined the Gwinnett County Police Department in July 2024 and graduated from the 121st Police Academy in May 2025.

Reed remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Reed joined the department in September 2015 and graduated from the 94th Police Academy.

The suspect was identified as 35-year-old Kevin Andrews. Police said Andrews sustained non-life-threatening injuries and will be transported to the Gwinnett County Jail once he is released from the hospital.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has assumed control of the investigation, as is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
