COBB COUNTY, Georgia -- An armed suspect was wounded in a shooting involving a Cobb County Police Department officer at the department's Marietta headquarters Wednesday, a department spokesperson said.
"One of our officers was involved in a shooting with an armed female subject on the premises of our headquarters," Sgt. Eric Smith said in an emailed statement.
No officers were injured in the shooting, Smith said.
The department is headquartered at 545 Fairground Street, near the Cobb County Civic Center.
“Additional officers responded quickly from within the building and began rendering aid (to the suspect),” Smith said. “Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene, and the suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment.”
It is unclear what time the shooting occurred or what led to shots being fired.
Smith said the department has “no further details” about the suspect’s injuries.
An investigation will be conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), Smith said.
A GBI spokesperson confirmed to the MDJ Wednesday that Cobb Police have contacted them to conduct an investigation, and said they will provide more details once they have more information.
