PARKLAND, Washington -- A Pierce County Sheriff’s Office deputy rescued an injured mail truck driver from a burning vehicle following a two-vehicle collision in Parkland, Washington, according to the agency.
The crash occurred around 12:10 p.m. on January 8 in the 10600 block of Park Avenue South. Deputies responded to a report of a mail truck on fire after it collided with a sedan, according to a news release.
According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, the first deputy on scene recognized that the mail truck driver was injured and in immediate danger due to the fire. The deputy pulled the driver away from the burning vehicle and then attempted to extinguish the fire with assistance from a bystander.
A back-seat passenger in the sedan sustained serious injuries. The male driver of the mail truck and the male back-seat passenger of the sedan were both transported to local hospitals and were reported to be in serious condition.
Central Pierce Fire responded to the scene and assisted with fire suppression and emergency medical operations, according to the sheriff’s office.
The cause of the collision was not released, and the incident remains under investigation.
