MISSION, Texas -- Mission Police Department officers responded to a reported kidnapping in progress Tuesday afternoon that escalated into an officer-involved shooting and the arrest of two individuals.
At approximately 2:04 p.m. on Jan. 21, officers were dispatched to 121 South Shary Road at an IBC Bank following a call reporting a kidnapping, according to a news release.
During the response, one individual inside a white vehicle opened fire on officers, striking multiple police units and nearby buildings, police said.
Officers returned fire, striking one individual. That person was transported to a local hospital. The individual’s condition was not disclosed.
A second individual connected to the incident was apprehended by Mission police without injury, according to the department.
One Mission police officer was transported to a hospital for observation. The officer is expected to be OK.
Mission police are leading the kidnapping investigation, and the reported victim is cooperating with investigators, the department said.
In accordance with protocol, the Texas Rangers are investigating the officer-involved shooting.
Police said there is no ongoing threat to public safety. The investigation remains active.
