Nebraska Deputy Shot; Gunman Wounded

A Douglas County, Nebraska Sheriff's deputy was wounded after a teenage gunman opened fire at the scene of a disturbance early Sunday morning.

Deputies responded to a call shortly before 5 a.m. about an individual armed with a baseball bat threatening his parents near the intersection of 240th and Pacific streets, according to KETV.

When deputies arrived, they found the 17-year-old armed with a shotgun, officials said.

Deputy John McFarland was wounded after the pointed his shotgun at them and opened fire. Deputies then returned fire, hitting the suspect.

McFarland was transported to Lakeside Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while the suspect was taken to CHI Bergan Mercy Hospital in critical condition.

The incident is currently under investigation.
