Police in Mesa, Arizona rescued a man stranded in a river with the use of a department helicopter last week.

Police were alerted after a person walking on a path near Sloan Park on March 2 around 7:40 p.m. heard cries coming from the Salt River, according to The Arizona Republic.

The police helicopter located the man on the north side of the river handing onto debris. The man told officers that he was unable to get back to shore due to the river's current and that the cold water was making him weak.

The crew maneuvered the helicopter over the man and he was able to hang onto the skid on the bottom of the chopper and he was put down on the shoreline. The man was treated by police officers and paramedics.

Officials said that the man, who was living in the river bottom, was not seriously injured.
