Arkansas Police Chief and Deputy Wounded

A Sebastian County Sheriff's deputy and the Hackett police chief were wounded in a shooting Wednesday morning.

A deputy and a police chief in Arkansas were shot by a gunman Wednesday morning.

Officials said that a Sebastian County Sheriff's deputy and the Hackett police chief were wounded in the shooting that occurred around 7:15 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 253 and Boone Road, according to KFSM-TV.

Both law enforcement officers were transported to Sparks Hospital in Fort Smith. The condition of both the deputy and the police chief are unknown at this time.

Officials said that the shooting suspect is not being cooperative and is armed with a semi-automatic weapon. Two helicopters are assisting in the search for the suspect, who is still on the loose in a wooded, rural area.

The Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Smith Police, Greenwood Police and Arkansas State Police department are all responding to the shooting.
