A video of a Clarksdale, Mississippi police officer slamming a suspect to the ground has gone viral.
Officers were outside a retail store about to do a walk through on June 2 around 2:40 p.m. when the incident occurred, according to WHBQ-TV.
Clarksdale Police Chief Robbie Linley told the news station that he isn't sure what caused the altercation between the officer and the 16-year-old, but acknowledged the situation "escalated."
Linley said the juvenile attempted to put the officer in a chokehold while being subdued. Realizing the danger he was in, the officer lifted up the teen and took him to the ground.
The suspect was then handcuffed and transported to the hospital as a precaution, but was not admitted. He was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault on an officer.
The incident is currently under investigation. No disciplinary action has been taken against the police officer.
