A Pittsylvania County, Virginia deputy was wounded and a suspect was apprehended following a standoff that stretched from Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning.
Two deputies responded to a residence on Blair Lane around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday for a call for help from a member of 37-year-old Brian Cundiff's family when they were confronted by the man, accoridng to The Danville Register & Bee.
Cundiff shot at one of the deputies before barricading himself in the residence.
The deputy sustained a minor gunshot wound to the head and was transported to Danville Region Medical Center where he was treated and released.
Pittsylvania County Sheriff Mike Taylor said that the standoff lasted about 7 hours before it ended around 1 a.m. Wednesday.
"After several hours with no contact, eventually . . . the SWAT teams did use special tactics to enter the house. But right at the end, this gentleman gave up and turned himself in," Taylor told the newspaper. "Our intent is to always have a peaceful resolution."
Cundiff was charged with attempted capital murder, malicious wounding and two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony.
