HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. -- A man accused of fleeing from a crash that killed his wife has been taken into custody with the help of a K-9.
Joshua Emmanuel Ladner, 27, suffered minor injuries Friday when a K-9 caught him in a wooded area of Pass Christian, Sheriff Melvin Brisolara said.
Ladner had been sought in a manhunt that began Thursday afternoon. Investigators believe he was towing a pickup steered by his wife, who lost control of it on Wolf River Road near Jake Bell Road. She was ejected and was killed.
Brisolara said Ladner got in his pickup truck and led deputies on a high-speed chase. He then abandoned his truck on Mennonite Road near Mississippi 53. He eluded authorities during an extensive manhunt with officers from three different law enforcement agencies.
Deputies and investigators went to his last known address Friday morning in the 9100 block of Firetower Road.
Brisolara said Ladner ran out the back door and apparently didn't realize a K-9 team was waiting outside.
"He took off running and when he hit the woods, the dog hit the woods, too," Brisolara said.
Ladner was taken to a hospital.
"We always do that as a preventive measure in case of dog bites," Brisolara said.
Ladner was sought on warrants on charges of leaving the scene of an accident causing death and felony fleeing.
Justice Court Judge Brandon Ladner set bonds that total $150,000.
Melissa Jane Ladner was 34.
