CHESAPEAKE, VA — A woman was killed, and two officers were injured late Wednesday after police were called to a domestic violence incident in the Greenbrier area. The suspect was still at large as of Thursday morning.
Officers arrived around 10:30 p.m. at an apartment in the 500 block of Willow Bridge Court, according to a statement issued by police.
“Upon arrival, officers heard a woman inside the residence screaming for help,” the statement said. “As officers attempted to breach the front door to render aid, an unknown suspect began shooting at them through the door from inside the apartment.”
Two of the officers were struck by the gunfire. Both were taken to a hospital for treatment, and both are expected to survive, the statement said.
The department’s SWAT Team and negotiators were sent to the scene, and a section of Greenbrier Parkway between City Park Drive and Kempsville Road was temporarily shut down.
Once officers were able to get inside, they found a woman who appeared to have been shot. She was taken to a hospital, where she later died.
Detectives are seeking 39-year-old Shaun M. Boker for questioning, the statement said. Boker is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who has seen him, or knows his whereabouts, is asked to call 911.
Online court records show Boker was awaiting trial on two domestic assault charges at the time of Wednesday’s incident. His next court date on the misdemeanor counts is set for Aug. 27.
No additional details were available as of Thursday morning.
