Texas K-9 Shot, Deputy Grazed by Bullet after Traffic Stop Turns Violent

A Harris County sheriff's deputy was grazed in the head by a bullet and a K-9 was shot and wounded while trying to apprehend a driver who fled a traffic stop.

A Texas K-9 was shot and a deputy was grazed in the head by a bullet when a traffic stop turned into a chase and struggle Tuesday.

At about 9:30 p.m., a Harris County sheriff's deputy tried to pull over a driver for a traffic infractions on Houston's far northwest side, but the suspect refused to stop, WOAI-TV reports. The deputy pursued the driver, who eventually crashed his vehicle.

A struggle ensued between the driver and the deputy, and the suspect drew a gun and fired. The deputy was grazed in the head but was able to shoot back as the man fled.

The suspect was found hiding under a trampoline in a residential back yard. A K-9 was deployed, but the suspect shot and wounded the dog before he was apprehended.

The K-9 was rushed to a veterinary hospital, but no details were released about the animal's condition. The deputy, a four-year veteran with the agency, was taken to the hospital for treatment of a bullet graze to the head.

The suspect also was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound.
