A New Jersey hospital worker stashed 39 guns, including an assault rifle, in an unlocked closet at the hospital, according to police.

Reuven Alonalayoff, 46, was marketing director at Hudson Regional Hospital when a bomb threat was called in on July 18, Secaucus police said.

A bomb-sniffing dog was alerted by a closet in Alonalayoff’s office, according to the cops. When officers opened the unlocked door, they found a cache of nearly 40 guns and ammunition to match.

“The unsecured storage of a large cache of weaponry, especially in this location, certainly creates a risk to public safety,” Police Chief Dennis Miller said in a press release. “I commend the efforts and professionalism of all the police personnel involved in this investigation and am thankful this situation was resolved without anyone being harmed.”

Cops said the bomb threat was a hoax. Alonalayoff’s closet contained 11 handguns, 27 rifles or shotguns and one assault rifle.

Alonalayoff was arrested Sunday at Newark Airport. He was charged with one count of assault rifle possession and two counts of possessing a high-capacity magazine.

It remains unclear how he got the weapons into the hospital.
