Shots Fired into Calif. Police Cruiser Narrowly Miss Officer

A driver who refused to pull over for Fairfield police opened fire during a chase, and bullets struck a patrol car's windshield and driver's side headrest, nearly hitting an officer.
Gunfire narrowly missed a California police officer after a suspect who refused to pull over began shooting during a vehicle chase late Sunday.
The incident happened at about 10 p.m. as Fairfield police tried to make a traffic stop, KOVR-TV reports. When the driver wouldn't pull over, a chase ensued.
During the pursuit, the driver began firing at police. Bullets struck a patrol car's windshield and driver's side headrest, nearly striking an officer.
Police finally deployed a spike strip to stop the fleeing vehicle. The driver began shooting again, but police returned fire and wounded the suspect.
No officers were injured in the incident. The suspect was taken to the hospital, and he is expected to recover.
