An off-duty Philadelphia police was carjacked early Friday by an armed suspect, who later abandoned the vehicle and torched it.
The incident happened at about 12:15 a.m. in the Kingsessing neighborhood, WTXF-TV reports. The off-duty officer told police that after parking his personal SUV, a suspect reached into his pocket at gunpoint, swiped his keys and took off with the vehicle.
The officer opened fire on the suspect, but it wasn't yet known if the carjacker was struck.
After driving off, the carjacker crashed into multiple parked vehicles and continued on. Eventually, the SUV was found on fire in the West Philadelphia hours later.
According to WTXF, a 15-year-old suspect who was treated at the hospital after being shot in the hand is being held in connection with the incident.
